Agricultural Exhibit – Agriculture has always been back breaking work as well as a pillar in our community’s economy, but before modern technology, agriculture was even more demanding. Our agricultural exhibit features tools and techniques that were used before the days of combines and huge tractors.
Archive Room – You can book an appointment to do research in our extensive archive room. Our archive collection includes marine/ship research, Allen Mann post cards, local business information, genealogy, family farms, maps, churches, schools, and much more. Research fee is waived for St. Clair Township residence, for others, fee is $5. You will be assisted by a knowledgeable employee and will be able to print (within reason).
Marine Room – Our Marine Room illustrates the importance of the St. Clair River and Great Lakes to our history. It features model ships such as The Q105, The Jay C. Morse, and the S.S. Assiniboia as well as nautical artifacts, maps, and actual boats!
World War II – No great history museum would be complete without a commemoration to the brave men and women that fought in the World Wars. Read the stories, hear the accomplishments, and see the equipment of the local war heroes from our township.
Communications Exhibit – Phones, typewriters, radios, and media. In a world where we spend more time looking at our screens than at each other, take a moment to appreciate and learn about how technology has advanced from writing boxes to smartphones as well as what role our township played in the development!
Fossil Exhibit – Our newly added fossil collection is of the mid Devonian era, also known as the ‘age of fishes’ and comes from Arkona, Ontario. It boasts a variety of trilobites, one of the earliest known arthropods.
Meeting Room – Our meeting room is used during the fall and winter months to host lectures on a variety of exciting topics. Check out our events calendar if you are interested in attending a lecture. Our meeting room is also available for rent.

Walking Tour – Grab one of our walking tour maps and take a self-guided stroll through the beautiful waterfront town of Sombra while learning about the history of the town’s oldest buildings and the businesses that resided there. The walking tour includes thirteen unique locations with historical photography and factual write-ups for each.
Q105 Mural – In 2015, Sombra Museum was proud to finally unveil our beautiful mural, two years in the making. Done by Sarnia artist Danny Alexander, the mural depicts the Q105 mid battle during WWII. Visit us to learn more about the exciting history and local significance of the Q105.
Various Outdoor Exhibits – Our outdoor exhibits include an anchor, a shingle maker, a rotating school yard gate, agricultural equipment and more. Weather permitting, we will be happy to tell you all about them during your tour.
Log Cabin – Constructed in 1829, our log cabin is the oldest building in Sombra. It has served several purposes over its lifetime; a temporary home, a milk house, and now a part of your tour when you visit us!
Victorian House – Take a guided tour through our 1800s Victorian home. Eight fully furnished and decorated rooms that demonstrate what life was like 150 years ago! This house will be the heart of your tour with us.
Fashion Exhibit – Experience fashion through the decades in our newly open fashion exhibit, offering a historical and visual timeline of popular prints, fabrics, hems, rouching, and stylistic choices. Many of our displayed pieces are from the finer events in life, prom, weddings, and formal events. This exhibit is a must see for any tailor or fashionista!
